Wishing You All The Best

12/24/2012

It is the time of year when many are gathering with family and friends to celebrate holiday, good food, and time off work. It is during this time usually when rubbing elbows with our fellow humans is a little easier to handle. Good cheer is a little more plentiful.
This increased kinship would be nice if it extended to every day for everyone, and not just certain times of the year. Owning and operating a bed & breakfast allows me to enjoy the benefits of a holiday season every day. Each time a guest arrives at Nestle Inn it is a wonderful experience. The majority of people are here to visit family or friends, they are not working and they are of good cheer. Three major ingredients in a recipe for happiness.
I wish all my guests of 2012, as well as previous years, all the best for 2013. Life can deal us some obstacles, but it's our choice of what we do with them.

Something is Cooking

My best friends are here for the weekend. When they are here the kitchen smells awesome from their cooking. At this moment Mary is making German Tomato Soup. The house is warm from the wood stove, soft music is playing in the background, the cooking smells wafting through the house and wonderful company make for an excellent day at the Nestle Inn Bed & Breakfast.

A two-day event, sponsored by the Beaverton Area Business Association, is planned for November 16 & 17, 2012. All downtown businesses as well as several others in the area will be open from 9am to 5pm for a community-wide open house. Each business will offer something special for shoppers. There will also be a drawing held for prizes. Those individuals who visit at least five businesses will be entered into the drawing and have a chance to win.
Nestle Inn Bed & Breakfast as well as the Crippled Chicken will be open for those two days this month. Those interested can take a tour of the bed & breakfast. The Crippled Chicken will have a variety of items on sale for those looking for a good bargain.

A new availability calendar is located on the "Inquiry Form & Deposit Info" page. It allows guests to check room availability and book rooms.  However, if you would rather like to submit an inquiry form or call concerning reservations or questions you may have, please do so. Whichever is convenient to you. Please let me know if you come across any problems with the new feature so that I may address them as soon as possible.
Thank you.

The House by the Side of the Road

10/20/2012

There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the place of their self-content;
There are souls like stars, that dwell apart,
In a fellowless firmament;
There are pioneer souls that blaze the paths
Where highways never ran-
But let me live by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

Let me live in a house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by-
The men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner's seat
Nor hurl the cynic's ban-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

I see from my house by the side of the road
By the side of the highway of life,
The men who press with the ardor of hope,
The men who are faint with the strife,
But I turn not away from their smiles and tears,
Both parts of an infinite plan-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

I know there are brook-gladdened meadows ahead,
And mountains of wearisome height;
That the road passes on through the long afternoon
And stretches away to the night.
And still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice
And weep with the strangers that moan,
Nor live in my house by the side of the road
Like a man who dwells alone.

Let me live in my house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by-
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,
Wise, foolish - so am I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat,
Or hurl the cynic's ban?
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

So Far This Year...

10/19/2012

As I sat looking out the window this morning, after I checked on the critters and let the chickens out, I thought back on the year so far here at Nestle Inn Bed & Breakfast.
I had the wonderful opportunity to meet new guests, and make new friends. It is always a pleasure to talk with people about why they visit the little town of Beaverton, and to hear about their lives elsewhere. I can't think of a better business to travel where I don't even have to leave the house.
There were newborns this year at the Nestle Inn ranging from small and large. Day-old chicks were purchased in May to become laying pullets in September. With the new flock on it's way that meant that the "old ladies" could be used elsewhere, such as in soup. Rooster still has yet to gather his new ladies together like he should, but I'm sure he will.
Rocky, the other rooster, found a new home with his own flock of hens. Last I heard he was doing well.
There were baby bunnies, and more baby bunnies. The last two bunnies born were fathered by Gizmo, the Angora rabbit.
And then there is Sarah. Sadie gave birth to her little kid on September 25th. She has been a pleasure every single day. I wish I had half the energy she has.
And talk about energy! I'm watching the pullets in the yard scavenge for bugs and such. And it seems whenever they want to travel from one part of the yard to the next they are in such a hurry, running and flying; as if there isn't much time left to get to where they're going.
It's amazing how much I get to see and witness just sitting here looking out the window.

Fire Pit Deck

9/18/2012

This summer John was able to get me some decking for around the fire pit in the back yard. However, that meant I needed a larger fire pit. "No problem" he says. "I will build you one". He's such a dear. He welded together some framing and added a draft to each corner.
John also helped me level the decking using a water level and then we added the fire pit. Once that was set we added stone to surround the pit. Later, I dug post holes to set the deck on posts.
It has turned out to be a nice area to sit around a warm fire on cool nights.

New Feature: Reservation Calendar

6/18/2012

On the "Inquiry Form & Deposit Info" page I have included a calendar that will show which rooms are booked.
If a room is not shown booked on a certain day, then it is available. However, the exception to this rule is the first and last days of a booked room. A room showing not available on the first day, that only applies from 3pm to 11:59pm. Likewise, the last day a room is showing not available, that only applies from 12am to 1pm.
I hope the added feature will be a convenience to guests. Please report any problems you might have with this new feature so that I can address the issue immediately.
